Pledge to demand better cultural heritage protection

Right now, Australia’s First Nations cultural heritage is at a greater risk of damage and destruction than ever before. The climate crisis, fossil fuel and other extractive industries, and government inaction all pose an overwhelming threat to our unique and invaluable cultural heritage.

First Nations cultural heritage is intrinsic to and inseparable from First Nations identity and ways of being. The protection of cultural heritage and Country must be a top priority for all Australian governments who claim commitment to justice and equity for First Nations peoples.

The
Pledge

First Nations cultural heritage is at the core of our national identity and I stand firm that destruction akin to the loss of Juukan Gorge, must never happen again. I call on all Australian governments to take urgent action to ensure First Nations peoples are in control of their cultural heritage so that it’s protected for future generations.
