Truth-telling Petition to support a Truth & Justice Commission

Petition to support a Truth & Justice Commission

Take Action

For decades, First Nations Peoples have called for treaties and truth-telling as vehicles toward greater justice, decision making and self-determination for their communities.

On 2 July 2024 the Australian Greens introduced a Bill to establish a Truth and Justice Commission, a national process to lay a foundation of truth about our shared history as a nation, and to begin to deliver the long-overdue justice that First Nations Peoples in this country deserve.

Now more than ever, strong leadership at a national level is both necessary and urgent in order to move beyond performative politics and to make a reality of the vision articulated in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. After 200+ years of dispossession and colonial violence, First Nations Peoples deserve justice.

We are calling on our supporters – and all of those who stand behind justice, rights and respect for First Nations Peoples – to take action and sign the petition urging the Australian Government to support the establishment of a Truth and Justice Commission, as promised.

The
Petition

I join ANTAR in urging the Australian Government to stand by its commitment to implement the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full and support the Greens’ Bill to establish a Truth and Justice Commission. First Nations Peoples have spoken. We do not need any more consultation. We need action.

We call on the Australian Government to step up and support this national truth-telling and truth-listening process in order to facilitate national truth-telling about our shared history and to deliver justice for First Nations Peoples who have never ceded their sovereignty over the stolen lands and waterways of what we now call Australia.
