Internationally, First Nations peoples suffer from hunger and malnutrition at a disproportionate rate compared to non-Indigenous populations. Australia is no different. With the pressure of climate change, cost of living, and population growth, food security is a pressing issue for First Nations peoples in Australia, particularly in remote locations.

Access to nutritious food is a critical social determinant of health – the daily conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age, and which influence health outcomes – and, as such, food security is vital to closing the gap in health outcomes between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
