Nine Recommendations were made by a majority of committee members for the Commonwealth to play a role alongside state goverments in progressing a Justice Reinvestment approach to crime in Australia. On the 17th September, the Northern Territory Coroner handed down his findings into the death of Kwementyaye Briscoe. The Coroner’s report made strong findings of “multiple failings” by NT Police, including an ‘utter dereliction of duty’ which resulted in Kwementyaye Briscoe’s death.
