National Close the Gap Day Picnic - 21/3 Prince Alfred Park 11.30am - 2.00pm
ANTaR marks National Close the Gap Day this Thursday with a Close the Gap Day Picnic at Prince Alfred Park, Surry Hills, Sydney.
Join us in sending a powerful message to all Members of Parliament that we are committed for the long-term and they should be too.
Bring a picnic rug and some lunch and join us in planting hands at the northern end of Prince Alfred Park (near Central Station) between 11.30am and 2.00pm, Thursday March 21.

Marking the fifth anniversary of the historic National Apology, ANTaR welcomes the passage of the Act of Recognition as another important act of reconciliation and an expression of goodwill by the Parliament to lead the journey ahead.
"We commend Prime Minister Gillard and Mr Abbott for affirming their shared commitment to achieving Constitutional Recognition of the First Peoples in Federal Parliament today,” said Jacqueline Phillips, National Director.

Reporting progress towards closing the gap in life expectancy between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians
The Indigenous Leadership Group of the Close the Gap Campaign this morning met with the Prime Minister before she tabled her annual report on progress in Closing the Gap.
They discussed critical developments for the 2013 year, these being;
* The development of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan
* The need for future commitment of funds as the National Partnership Agreement on Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Outcomes comes to a close mid 2013.

A significant step along the road to Constitutional Recognition is fast approaching. The Bill of Recognition introduced to Federal Parliament in November is expected to be voted on next Wednesday 13 February.
