The Assistant Campaigns Officer will assist in the coordination of campaign activity relating to our three key campaigns - constitutional recognition, justice and health equality.
The person we are looking for will have experience in campaigning and event management, will be committed to the realisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples rights and will be available for an immediate start.

The data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Friday November 15 are the latest official estimates of life expectancy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The data reveals a slight narrowing of the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
The ABS found that over the past five years the gap has been reduced by 0.08 years for men and 0.1 years for women.

The Close the Gap Campaign Committee has released its briefing paper, calling for an incoming government to priortise a renewed COAG National Partnership Agreement on Closing the Gap and action on the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan to ensure progress on closing the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other Australians.

Minister Macklin's announcement today of Labor's Closing the Gap policy statement includes a welcome breakthrough with justice targets being included in the Closing the Gap framework.
The Labor policy commits to developing a new Closing the Gap target aimed at tackling the high rates of engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the criminal justice system, particularly young people.
Acknowledging that education and employment can be drivers of high incarceration rates, the additional commitment to these areas is a welcome component to this framework.

The Greens have announced a plan to introduce Justice Reinvestment across Australia.
The plan includes investing $10 million over 4 years to establish a national centre for justice reinvestment; and $50 million over four years to fund a justice reinvestment grants program.
ANTaR welcomes this committment and urges the Government and opposition to match it.
