UN Declaration
on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples

UNDRIP

First Nations Peoples in Australia are entitled to the full realisation of their rights as articulated in relevant human rights instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and specifically the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

With approximately 370 million Indigenous people globally, it is important that governments listen to the voices of First Nations leadership and communities and legislate to actively protect the fundamental rights and interests of First Nations Peoples. Particularly in settler colonial states like Australia, governments have a moral and arguably a legal obligation to preserve First Nations cultures and to allow for the full expression of First Nations Peoples’ sovereignty and their right to self-determination.
